A promise from one midlife, perimenopausal woman to another

I am a midlife, perimenopausal woman. You might be one too. In fact, if you’re reading this you probably are, or know/love someone who is.

It has taken a while to get to grips with the way that I feel about growing older and my body changing in so many ways, but I’m getting there. My confidence fluctuates from day to day, but I believe in my own strength. Fortunately other people do too!

I started Change & Thrive because it provides me with an outlet to reach other women, their partners, families, friends and workplaces. I can help you feel more empowered in midlife and perimenopause, by helping you understand it better. From a personal perspective, an interesting side effect of this work has been that I’m not as afraid to speak up as I used to be. In fact, sometimes I’m quite vocal, which in turn does not necessarily make everybody happy. You know what? Fuck it. I do not need other peoples’ opinions of me to live and love my life. And neither do you.

What you do need is reassurance, information and support. I am learning from the best in the world, so that when I work with and for you, you know that:

You are NOT ALONE. I will remind you that you have made it through other bad times – you have the strength and skills to get through it. This is about learning from your unique past, to move to your best future.

You’re right – midlife is not easy. Sometimes it sucks. Sometimes it rocks. There is no right way to navigate it – only YOUR way!

Midlife Crises are not guaranteed. We’ll look at midlife as a transitional time. A time where you can take control of planning what you want to do and when.

You deserve the best information so that you can make informed decisions. I will signpost you to places where you can learn more. I am never going to be a one stop shop. I’m not arrogant enough to think that I know it all.

Signs and symptoms of perimenopause and beyond can be baffling. I promise to give you the language you need to have a frank and informed discussion with your health provider about your symptoms so that you can get the treatment you want and need.

Help, information, support and treatment is available – no matter what the problem is.

I will not patronise you – I will however, remind you how lucky you are to have reached this stage of life. Not everyone makes it this far!

Believe me when I say that I get it. I am living it in my own way. I am communicating with women who live it in their own way. And, in a beautiful, unique, sometimes messy, often funny, frequently tearful way you will get through it too.
